Lughnasad, International Festival of Celtic Culture

Lughnasad, International Festival of Celtic Culture

2007 – 2026

Lughnasad is one of the most significant festivals of Celtic and Celtic-inspired culture in the Czech Republic. Held annually at the turn of July and August at the Země Keltů site, it ranks among the largest events of its kind in Central Europe. The festival brings together music, theatre, dance, historical performances and educational programmes, presenting a unique cultural heritage inspired by the traditions of the Late Iron Age.

The festival programme is spread across two days — Friday and Saturday. The musical strand features concerts by Czech and international acts from the world of Irish, Scottish and folk music. The historical strand offers theatrical and dance performances, demonstrations of historical martial arts and fencing, and reconstructions of rituals and customs of our ancestors. The festival hosts professional artists, actors, stunt performers and more than two hundred re-enactors from several European countries.

Workshops, lectures and creative activities for children and adults are also an integral part of Lughnasad. The festival thus creates a space for bringing together history enthusiasts, lovers of traditional culture and families with children, while contributing to the preservation and presentation of ancient traditions.

Lughnasad is organised by the Boii association entirely on a volunteer basis. If you’d like to help organise the festival or get involved in other ways, join our volunteers →.
